First, I want to thank Everett's family for inviting me, a stranger, into their home to help others. Thank you so much. Everett has Down syndrome. He was born almost 2 months premature. He had corrective heart surgery and has a G-tube. He is also absolutely adorable. Join me as I follow Everett over time, providing pediatric physical therapy treatment recommendations to help him get stronger, faster, and more mobile. I first met him when he was 11.5 months old. I am so excited to see him grow and change over time.

The Backwards Bucket Challenge: Pediatric Exercises for Dynamic Balance #18
I was told my child didn't have torticollis by my pediatrician, however, he preferred his head to the right. He could move his head both ways, but was always to the right when sleeping. He now has plagiocephaly that has gotten noticeable. We've worked on neck and head rotation, he's doing better, but he's now 4.5 months and still isn't rolling. I've noticed he's very stiff in his trunk, and has a hard time reaching, especially reaching in front when on tummy. He's barely moving his left arm. I've been trying to do the trunk rotation and it's so hard since he does not sit still, and throws his weight around a lot.
I'm 37 and I think I'm an undiagnosed toe walker mild to moderate. It's much more noticeable in bare feet. My pediatrist says my feet and calves are overly ridgid. All he can suggest is "shockwave therapy" for thousands more dollars. I have terrible hip pain since childhood with dozens of different nonsense diagnosis... Every doctor has something else to sell me yet none of it helps and I'm completely out of money to keep giving to them. They all want to cut me somewhere different . I was born strangled and blue with my umbilical cord around my neck which can't be great.
I recommend a physical therapist. They usually don’t want to cut you.
He is not tall enough to sit on exercise ball fully inflated too big
I use this size balls with this size child frequently. You should only use a ball that you feel comfortable with though
I have no ball so what i substitue

Here is my answer: #20 How Long Should I Do These Exercises with my Child?: Ask A Pediatric PT a Question ruclips.net/video/9J-AXqmvuV4/видео.html
I really wish my pediatrician stressed how important this is to be treated and explained it thoroughly.. she said I could go to therapy but I could do it home too. Now my son’s torticollis is worse.
He’s 5 months now and his right side mass is the size of maybe two peas? I did notice he was positioned head down as soon as 5 months pregnant and never moved from that position
You can still effectively start therapy
@@pediatricPTexercises thank you, I made him an appointment yesterday after your video. Is it okay for me to change his doctor at the same facility? Or is it looked down upon??
@@nancypalacios9840 I think as a parent that you have to consider what is best for your child. It’s important to advocate for what your child needs. If this means switching doctors, so be it in my humble opinion.
She would take the ball home if you don't need it anymore
Oh, I still need it
🥰
He is so sweet isn’t he?
Hi.what about flat head?is there a treatment
Cranial banding addresses head shape. Physical therapy addresses the movement problem causing the head shape
I know it’s dependent upon the severity but how soon after starting exercises/stretches should you see improvements?
Often, I can see improvements by the next session, which is usually a week away
Good job John!!

Ok
This is SO important! I am 60 years old with mild CP, that went largely ignored from about age 14 on. I thought I had experienced all the limitations I was going to have. Then in my 50s I developed an unexplained early bladder failure. It did not occur to me to even consider premature aging as a result of my cerebral palsy. My urologist just said following extensive testing that he could not explain why someone at my young age has the bladder of an 80-year old. Likewise I had previously gone to a physical therapist around age 50 due to hip and back pain because my hips were out of alignment. When I struggled to perform basic pelvic exercises the male therapist seemed dumfounded and actually said, "I thought you said you had kids? It is similar to that motion. How can you not understand that function?" Said in a guy to guy funny kind of way. I was so humiliated, I never went back to him. Then another physical therapist referred me to a Neuro-physical therapist who was amazing! She was the first person to explain that all of these issues were linked to my cerebral palsy that was presenting advanced symptoms as I got older. So here I was in my 50's suddenly re-engaging in research and information on cerebral palsy as a middle-aged man. I am not sure if I was previously in denial, but I finally had an explanation for my chronic joint pain and bladder failure. I never considered myself disabled because I was not in a wheelchair. I had always had a pronounced limp and loss of muscle control on my left side, with slow motor skills, but my speech and quick wit were always intact. Hearing this news at 57 from a neuro-therapist was a Godsend. I finally had an answer and I cried tears of joy from relief because it wasn't anything stupid I had done to cause that. Rather, it was just who I was. I was born that way, and that brought so much peace of mind. Now I embrace and own my disability and am so glad there is a community of people, like me discussing this. Thank you for sharing this story.
Thank you so much for adding your story

Thank you Amy. Is that big toy a walker, do u recommend it for a 2 year old?
It is a push toy for walking. A lot of families use this to help their child to walk. It can be a nice toy to help but not essential
So . What is nf1b ?
I don’t know what NFTB1 is. This talk was a talk about NFT1
My brother is 34 , he was diagnosed with CP vert late . Now from independent walking and running, he is just closed in home . More dislocations are happening to him , for hip , knee , elbow , eye balls . His life is a hell now . Do you have any recommendations for him ? Would really appreciate any insight. He is in India . In addition he is without job , more frustration comes from that way .
I strongly recommend you find a local therapist who can assess your brother and determine the correct treatment plan. It is considered unethical for me to provide treatment recommendations for a person I did not personally evaluate.
Being mildly dyslexic I read “How do you claim a baby” 🤔 😂
Too funny!
My granddaughter had intense colics and was desperately screaming while arching her body when under 3 months old. NOTHING worked to sooth her except for this position with a pacifier in her mouth. The heel of my palm was gently pressing on the cramping abdomen , the other hand held the pacifier in her mouth
So glad you found something that worked
I've commented before a while back, but I just wanted to let you know of my daughters progress. When I first found your videos she wasn't turning either way. She is turning both ways now, she is also sitting unsupported playing with toys infront of her for about 10 min before she starts to falter. She carries her weight on her legs when standing. We are now starting to make the connection between tummytime and sitting. Propping up more etc. She is 11 months with downs syndrome. I think I found your videos 3 months ago. So once again.... thank you from the bottom of our hearts ❤ 🙏!
I am so glad you found this playlist helpful for you. You may need a different playlist to follow to be able to have higher skills. Sounds like your child is moving beyond Everett skill level. My baby is 4month old he is having torticollis.can u please tell how many months it might take to resolve
The earlier you address, the Torticollis, the quicker the children resolve. You would need a local therapist to assess your child to know how quickly they will improve. The difficulties with rotation improved before the head tilt improves in most cases.
Here is my Torticollis playlist maybe it can help you. You will need to have your child assessed by someone locally. There is no way I can help you from here about a specific child that I cannot personally see. Torticollis Treatment ruclips.net/p/PLAkJbMrHyKjOS1oT3rtE8PzHf_KL-dAz9

My son toe walks. Hes autistic. I did as well as a girl but didnt know then Im on the spectrum too. His autism is just fsr more obvious than mine. The puzzling thing is he absolutely didnt do it as a baby but it started when he was 10 or so. Hes 15 now. The toe walking is what immediately upon lookin at him gives away that hes autistic and people perceive him being pretty severe maybe even more severe than he actually is. What I mean is even if people shouldn't judge we live in a world where they are going to. Hes 6'1 taller than most grown men and if he keeps doing toe walking its going to make everything in his life harder. His physical health, his ability to be perceived as capable by employers, his ability to even make friends. I do wish he would stop like I found a way to mostly stop (I may still do it around house a little) but not in public.
I am sorry that you have to worry about these things. Thank you for adding your story here. Here is my toe walking playlist. Maybe some of these ideas could help your son.
